I admit it, most paleo protein bars have nuts. In fact, many snack bars have nuts. It can sometimes hard to get away from them - especially when you are looking for protein bars without nuts.
How to Get Around the Nuts:
All that said, there are nut free protein bars that you can buy without having to make your own. Two that are listed on our Paleo Bar Chart are the PaleoBar and the Tanka Bar.
1. The Tanka Bar…
If you’re not familiar with the Tanka Bar, then you may be surprised to find that it’s just buffalo jerky, dried cranberry, sugar, salt and spices. Therefore, there are no nuts. This is an easy one.
However, if you are not in the mood for jerky or you are a vegetarian, well, don’t get the Tanka Bar. But all is not lost - there is the PaleoBar as well.
2. The PaleoBar…
The PaleoBar does come in multiple flavors, so don’t get the vanilla almond bar, for example. The Cocommune Bar, on the other hand, does not have nuts. Another benefit is that it is low in net carbs. That said, it does contain maltitol syrup, which I am not a fan of, but I won’t tell you what to do.
Although the Cocommune Bar is not high in protein (2 grams per serving), it is high in coconut oil, which is known for being a good source of energy for paleo athletes that doesn’t pack on the carbs (it has none).
Check out bars made from seeds and grains like the Quinoa protein bar and the Live Pumpkin Bar (no, there is not a live pumpkin inside the package).
Quinoa is a great (but not as well-known) source of protein, while seeds are higher in healthy fats and are very effective at keeping hunger at bay while not causing a spike in your blood sugar.
